Community members are dedicated to preserving the rich history of the former Diamond Chain site in downtown Indianapolis. Careful recent excavations of the site uncovered 87 burials across 6 acres. To properly memorialize these findings, Mount Jackson Cemetery has been chosen as the location for reinterment. The cemetery is maintained by the Wayne Township Trustee’s Office and is just west of the site. This decision reflects ongoing commitment to respectful community development and historical preservation. Community updates, insights and opportunities for engagement will continue, ensuring that the memorial captures the history and dignity of those reinterred after more than a century.
